What is Avocado?
A pear-shaped fruit with a rough leathery skin and smooth, oily edible flesh. Avocado has a high fatty acid content but contains extremely low levels of cholesterol.
Many people tend to stop eating avocado due to its high-calorie content, thinking that it may add to their weight. However, it contains fewer calories when compared to butter and other high-calorie dietary items. Also, much of the fat content comes from unique sources, like phytosterols, which are beneficial for a number of reasons.
This article explains various reasons why you should eat avocado daily. Below are few thoughts on why you need to eat avocado everyday.
- It improves vision: It helps keep your eyes healthy. Avocado contains carotenoids such as lutein and zeaxanthin which help to protrct your eyes against cataracts, eye disease related to mocular degenaration and age, Such condition are caused by free radicals that accumulate in the tissue of the eyes. The activity of the anti-oxidant of these carotenoids in avocado neutralizes the effects of these free radicals.
But avocados are not just rich in carotenoids by themselves’they also help you get more of these nutrients from other food. Carotenoids are lipophilic (soluble in fat, not water), so eating food that contains carotenoid like fruits and vegetables along with monounsaturated-fat-rich avocados helps your body absorb the carotenoids. A very easy way to do this is to add sliced avocado to a mixed salad.
- It contains more potassium than banana: Several studies shows that taking in high potassium may help reduce blood pressure, a major risk factor for heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. Potassium is a nutrient most people are not getting enough of due to what they take in daily, this nutrient is meant to maintain electrical gradients in the body's cells and also serves various important functions in the body.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS:
Potassium is an important mineral that most people don't get enough of. Avocados are very high in potassium, which should support healthy blood pressure levels.
From my research, generally bananas are seen as high potassium food but the % is about 14% in avocado and 10% in banana.
It promotes healthy heart: One of the health benefits of avocado includes a healthier heart. Beta-sitosterol which is found in avocados help to maintain a healthy cholesterol level, the significant level of potassium also make avocado a powerful fruit in the fight against hypertension, Potassium is a vasodilator, which relaxes the tension of blood vessels and arteries, thereby reducing the chances of clotting, heart attacks, and strokes.
It helps reduce cholesterol: Cholesterol is a type of fat made by the body, It is key for good health but high levels often caused by an unhealthy diet can raise so many risks. An avocado a day can help keep bad cholesterol in check. Avocados are a source of monounsaturated fat, which is good for you when eaten in moderation. They're also rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, compounds that block cholesterol absorption in the body
It is used for skin and hair care: Avocados are loaded with nutrients that help beautify and maintain a healthy skin, Most cosmeticians add it to their products due to it's ability to nourish the skin with essential vitamins and make it glow. It enriches skin that are dry, chapped or damged and it is also also used to treat the hair, it helps dried and damaged hair come back to life. Personally, i use avocado to prepare skin and hair mask and the result has been quite amazing. Above all, avocado oil helps in treating "plaque psoriasis". Beta-carotene and lycopene are two organic compounds found in large quantities in avocados and both of these have been connected to improving the health and tone of the skin which helps in eliminating signs of premature aging.

It is advised that athlests should always take avocados because it provides vital nutrients to maintain required energy levels and good health.
