[WHISKY] Samples from @evyxxx 🥃

in whisky •  7 months ago

I received some lovely samples from @evyxxx the other day. Among them a Bunnahabhain from the annual Fèis ìle Festival. Let's give it a review, shall we?

Bunnahabhain 14-year-old - Warehouse 9 - Hand Filled Exclusive

ABV: 59.9%
Age: 14 years old
Region: Islay
Bottled: 26.05.2017
Cask type: 1st fill Oloroso sherry
Cask No: 1490
Natural color & non-chill filtered

Appearance: Very dark and cloudy. Mahogany.

Nose: Heavy, dense sherry notes. Holy cow, this is going to be a taste bomb. Plenty of ripe figs, I could almost mistake it for a barley wine! Tart, sweet and quite vinous. After 20-30 minutes in the glass I actually get some faint maritime notes in the background together with more earthy aromas such as leather and tobacco.

Palate: They've sure used some really good Oloroso casks for this one. Burnt sugar, figs and plenty of chocolate. Some saltiness, albeit not as much as in the Manzanilla version. Some bitterness and austerity there that balances the sweetness, and a lovely christmasy clove note.

Finish: Drying and extremely long.

Conclusion: Brilliant stuff again. If you ever get your hands on a Fèis ìle bottling from Bunnahabhain , grab it without hesitation. Cheers to @evyxxx for the beautiful samples! Oh, a score? Probably 92 out of 100.

Mmm...sounds lovely! I am a fan of the Bunnahabhain, for sure. Haven't tried this expression...yet! Hopefully one day.

I've been off alcohol for the past month and am so excited to have some Scotch again this weekend!

I like to take breaks as well, makes the dram experience all the more special. Cheers!

Sláinte!

Hi! Glad you enjoyed these drams... What do you think about Caol Ila? If you tried it already?

I got your package yesterday but didn't have time to discover in details what's inside ;) Will make a post about it in coming days! Thank you!!!

PS: What's is the transparent bottle? :P

·

The transparent bottle carries this one:

And the Bunna bottle carries the Manzanilla version of the Feis Ile Bunna. I hope you'll enjoy them!

The Caol Ila was lovely too! Rather antiseptic and heavy-weighted with plenty of smoked fish. Was perfect after a day at the beach. :)

Thanks for the link, watching now... :)
I had 2 seconds and got some drops of "transparent" one, the first taste impression was like I had a shot of pepper in my mouth. And very long finishing... Will look deeper asap.

Manzanilla Manzanilla... I think there is Vanilla... :D !

Have you ever tried Kilchoman Machir Bay?

I've yet to try anything from Kilchoman actually, but I've got my eyes on the Kilchoman Madeira Cask; will probably pick it up on my next whisky order :)
