Success at Utopian Speed - When the right team makes the real difference

in utopian-io •  5 months ago

We could not be prouder of our team. The speed at which moderation and reward distribution activities were resumed in Utopian, their involvement and passion about the project are truly inspiring and are undoubtedly our biggest strength.

Today we are happy to be sharing another set of updates our team was able to develop and deploy in record speed and efficiency.

New Utopian Bot

Thanks to @amosbastian our new Utopian bot is live and voting. It was developed fully with Python for maximum speed and scalability. It has some new cool features, while maintaining the best functionalities of the previous bot.

Voting Power

The new bot does not begin voting until its voting power is charged to 99.9% power, and casts a new vote every 5 minutes. This allows us to ensure the vote is fair for every contribution, without having to consume the power down to 80%.

Voting Distribution

The score assigned by a moderator remains the most important metric for the bot to decide the voting weight along with the age of the submission. The highest scored contributions will always be voted first as long as there is available VP.

The new bot is Open Source: https://github.com/utopian-io/utopian-bot

New Review System

Thanks to the amazing work of @ms10398 the new https://review.utopian.io was born.

This helper tool allows Moderators to properly and easily score contributions based on a very specific and well thought set of questions, defined and worded by some of the best professionals on this blockchain.

Transparency

After receiving feedback from the community asking for transparency on the assigned score, we’ve launched the new https://review.utopian.io service.

It allows moderators access to a public page URL that contains in it all the questions and answers picked during the review, for the contributors to note to improve their future contributions.

The review tool is Open Source: https://github.com/utopian-io/review.utopian.io

New Tipping Bot

Meaningful and constructive comments are important to the Utopian community. We would like to recognize and incentivize the most valuable comments left by our Moderators, CMs and community members.

Thanks to amazing work of @ms10398 we now have https://tip.utopian.io.
Community Managers can use this tool to assign a significant 1% tip by the Utopian bot to exceptional comments left by Moderators and community members.

We hope this will incentivize the community to provide the best curated content that may be of value to others as well.

The Tip Bot is Open Source: https://github.com/utopian-io/tip.utopian.io

Translations are Coming BACK!

We have been working hard to come up with a new framework to resume the review and rewarding of translation contributions. We are working with a professional team of translators in creating a workflow and review system to make it possible for you to resume contributing in this category.

Stay tuned for an upcoming announcement in the coming weeks!

Utopy

We believe our community deserves only the best of the best. For this reason we are trying to provide everyone with the best tools and materials to become better Open Source contributors.

Recently added to our team is an experienced social media manager and Open Source enthusiast, entrusted to provide our Discord community with valuable Open Source materials, Utopian freebies and open teaching sessions in our community chat server.

To ensure this account is directly associated with Utopian, we’ve decided to use the opportunity to adopt a mascot, and we’re reaching out to the community to help us design Utopy, the Utopian mascot.

For details, check the task request posted here.

Wonderful work, I love seeing how they progressed and achieved everything in such a short time, many successes continue like this!

·

Glad they recovered from the hack.

·

Thank you for the kind words. It is with the support from all the community that we strive, grow, and keep going.

That better way of voting for the bot, you really done a good job @amosbastian, that way @elear utopian-io bot will always give a high Vote Power to contributors.

Guys that s impressive! I have mentionned the transparency like 3-4 days ago and you ve already done all that! Thanks a lot @ms10398, @amosbastian can't wait to see your bot in action ;)

·

Your suggestion did make a lot of sense! :)

Great guys, you rock and NOTHING can stop you!
That bot looks amazing, well done @amosbastian!

·

This is great to hear. Amos has been a huge help with his Python skills and he made several tools for Utopian, including the new voting bot.

So glad to see the bot being updated so it supports 'continous' voting! Thanks a lot @amosbastian! Also happy to see all other changes. Way to go guys!

·

Thanks a lot @jefpatat. Glad to see https://www.steemmakers.com/ is evolving as well!

·
·

Still leisure time fun and learning. Surprised you are aware of what we're doing :-D. Flattered actually.

Amazing work! I wish I had more time so that I could also contribute more.

·

Thank you @justyy :)

Nice work @elear and team. Yeah, there's definitely speed at the moderation rate for some categories like the suggestions category, bug hunting, and maybe development. Others especially copywriting is still very low and the rate of rejection is high.

However, I appreciate all the hardwork from the CMs and mods such as @amosbastian, @codingdefined, @imwatsi and several others. If I had medals, I'd give them to you guys!

Kudos! We are Utopian!!

·

Thanks so much @neduzze5! We try our best to make sure every contribution is reviewed and scored in time! Some may take longer but none is ever left unreviewed :)

·
·

Yeah, I know. I have seen a few however, which exceeded the seven days window and there was no comment. I believe it's because of the new system in place which makes it really hard to find and go through all contributions. Despite that, I still give the team a lot of kudos. And to you, Sir @elear, three hearty cheers... hip, hip, hip, hurray!!

·
·
·

We have an automated database which spots and presents contributions to our mods. Some contributions may have the wrong tags which makes impossible for our DB to find them. As long as the proper tags are used it should be fine. https://join.utopian.io/rules contains all the specs.

·
·
·
·

I guess that's what the contributor did wrong then. Kudos once again.

Great announcemet as usual. Who does reconize the best comment? How is it declared as useful for community?

·

I would say "go and check the code and you will know buddy"!! Cheers

·
·

What if someone doesn't understand the code?

·
·
·

Thanks... let's see how it works... hoping for the best

·
·
·

@programminghub comments are picked by our CMs based on the suggestions contained in them, length of the comments and other metrics. As long as the comment brings value to the contributor or the community as a whole, it may be picked for a tip.

·
·
·

if someone does not understand the code well i would say use the common sense of logic..."what/how could make a bot tip for a good comment ??" i would say, pertinent comments so no short comments such as "nice work !!" or "i like it !!" but real comments with a certain length or maybe with some keywords related to the post. Not wanting to come against you at all but i think it is quite obvious concept

Ace to see the team rolling out even more updates! Nice work 💯🎉

·

Thank you!

finally the translation category is coming back ❤️❤️❤️❤️

·

Yeah! :D

glad to hear that translation is coming back. we have been waiting so long.

·

Hopefully soon Mr Translation :)

·
·

thanks man lol.

Great step for this platform, hoping to contribute on the graphics side for utopy. Thank you

·

Thanks! Now I want to see your design :)

Transparency

Would be nice if You could share publicly spreadsheet of already reviewed contributions
https://github.com/utopian-io/utopian-bot/blob/master/upvote_bot.py#L36
Like You did via API few weeks ago.

·

Right @mys. We are willing to provide an API endpoint just for that very very soon.

·

Hello @daiky69. Once a moderator reviews your post, the picked answers will be available for you in a link. You will be able to open this link on https://review.utopian.io to check how your contribution was scored.

·
·

If a mod picks an answer that express the contribution is bad they should leave feedback so the contributor knows what to improve and not make the same mistake again.

·
·
·

Of course they do! This is just an additional info for the contributor to use.

·
·
·
·

Maybe it's been my bad luck xD I need to "chase" them to get feedback u.u

·
·
·
·
·

@fabiyamada if so, tell us mods who could do better and we ll make sure we can improve. For us providing valuable feedbacks is vital.

·
·
·
·
·
·

is the ticket system really being taken in consideration? tickets always make me feel like I will be ignored =/
I was gonna ask you who to talk to if a mod is not giving proper feedfack or non-sense feedback; but I guess you would say "CM" but the CM replies with "send a ticket"....

Excited to see the translations back! Hope it will not take much time now.

·

We are all excited with this new announcement!

Great job! kudos to the utopian.io team. I wait the resumption of translation.

·

Lots of people, including our team, have been waiting for re-enabling the category. We should see it soon working again.

Good work . We always support utopian.io and can boast. Can always appreciate contributors.

Very good to see all these features working!! amazing. Thank you very much :)

I was very happy to hear your utopian talk and I became very brave
Thank you, you talked about price among us.

Great job! I am glad to see utopian getting better!
I have a few questions..
Who are considered "community members" to get the tips? How will a tip be assigned?
Is the UA algorithm going to be implemented for the bot?
When will the winner of mascot be chosen and voted? The winner for the steemit feed was never chosen and there wasn't any announce so we worked in vain, or will it be retaken someday?

·

Hey lots of questions here. So the tipping bot is managed by our CMs based on how valuable the comment is, how many info and suggestions it contains. As for the Utopy every contribution will be scored and upvoted if qualifies. The top scored one will be staff picked and used. As for the steemit contest unfortunately the changes were never implemented so the contest couldn't move on. If a developer is still willing to deliver a PR we are still more than happy to release the rewards for the designer and the developer involved

·
·

So everyone is considered community member?
The UA was left behind?

·
·
·

UA-Python is still under development by Scippy the ScipMeister @scipio! But now at least @amosbastian managed to get a bit of Python at the core of Utopian!!!

The more Python involved, the better! Right @elear ? (PS: still waiting for that DM)

·
·
·
·

Python is BEST. I promise I will @scipio, the latest tmrw I'll be checking and replying to the pending messages. Sorry for the delay.

·
·
·
·

glad to hear that!! cheers!

We are utopian!
And long may utopian leave

Congratulation @utopian-io
And it's team of developers, I also loved that the bot development is an open source project. It would be lovely to be able to pitch in and help in any way possible.

·

Thanks for your support and please go ahead, all the help is welcome :)

·
·

It would be an absolute delight @favcau
Could I get the link to the repository?

Wao. Its esteemly perfect job, ubgrade and interesting.
Kudos to @ms10398
Its of a great value

Great news. Congrats for the fast progress and updates. Keep up the good work! 🙂

·

Thank you for your support!

Wow really great to see progress for a short period of time. Way to go @utopian-io. My supports will always be there for you since this platform had really helped me a lot. My best wishes for the success of this new utopian.io.

·

Thank you very much for your support. There is always room for improvement and we make our best to cover the tools we had and bring new features that will be useful for the Utopian community and contributors of open source projects.

·
·

Its very to nice to hear and see the development of utopian. It was a great time for me contributing at the graphics category and to see how it evolves now for the better makes me feel more happy because in the end I know that it will turn out really great.

I am really glad at the speed with which things are taking shape at utopian. Long live Utopian.

Translations are Coming BACK!

😄

Stay tuned ... in the coming weeks!

😖

...

Is the website going to return? (I want) or the tagging way is forever?

I have literally 2 months without contributing.

2018-05-15_08-14-37.png

·

Hey @nehomar the website will return of course. It just needs some time to move away from the previous authorisation system. Are you having any issue with contributing via other frontends? Let me know how I can help.

·
·

Well, I was doing both, translations and graphics. Translation category was "removed" and graphics was changed to "request only", so ...

I like the freedom of choosing my projects, so I just stooped the design, after that change. And translations, forced to stop, so ...

Basically I am in an utopian eternal limbo for now.

Congratulations @utopian-io!
Your post was mentioned in the Steemit Hit Parade in the following category:

  • Upvotes - Ranked 9 with 764 upvotes

how well they are making progress, keep up with that attitude of success

Greetings utopian! I liked the old interface a lot, and now it's offline :( Are you working on bring it back or the future only publications via steemit will be possible? So sad to see the interface removed! It was clear and shiny! ... @utopian-io
